On 7 April, the Singapore Teachers’ Union (STU) had the distinct privilege of hosting a leadership delegation from the Association of Education Service Agencies (AESA), a prominent U.S. organisation representing 478 education service agencies across 39 states.
It was a meaningful and dynamic exchange where we explored how unions and education service agencies can collaborate to better support the education fraternity.
Among the key conversations were:
- Strengthening Educators’ Professional Growth: We discussed the importance of providing teachers with continuous learning opportunities, such as leadership development, peer mentoring, and cross-border exchanges that can empower them to innovate in their practice.
- Championing Educators’ Well-being: Both sides shared how rising workloads and emotional fatigue are common challenges globally. We exchanged strategies on how unions and agencies can proactively advocate for mental health support, fair work-life policies, and safe, supportive school environments.
- Uplifting Educators’ Voices: We delved into the need for authentic teacher representation in decision-making at all levels. The AESA delegation emphasised their efforts in amplifying educators’ voices within policy discussions, and we shared STU’s approach in shaping national education policies through ground-up feedback.
It was truly an inspiring session filled with mutual learning and new perspectives.
We are excited about the opportunities for sustained collaboration and continued knowledge exchange across borders. Together, we can create stronger, more supportive ecosystems for educators everywhere. 🤝✨
