Dear STU Delegates,
First, I would like to congratulate you on your election/appointment as an STU Delegate. It is an honour and a privilege to be able to represent members in your school/MOE branch and to do your part to further the interest of the teaching fraternity.
Since 1946, STU has been the voice of teachers, representing the collective opinions affecting teachers’ professional interest and the teaching profession. Besides workplace advice and representation, STU supports members in their professional development, social and recreational needs.
As Singapore’s economy transforms with the advent of disruptive technologies and trends, we can expect our education system to evolve at a faster pace. Inevitably there will be changes in the way teachers carry out their work, and their interactions with the various stakeholders. As Delegates, you play a key role in understanding and providing feedback on members’ concerns for STU to effectively advocate for teacher wellness. It is important to ensure that teachers can focus on their core duties – teaching and nurturing their students. Teacher wellness is student wellness.
Serving our members remains the core mission of STU and its Delegates. It is thus vital for Delegates to be aware of the various resources and support that would be useful for you in carrying out your role. This handbook consolidates some of these useful references.
Yours-in-teaching,
Mike Thiruman
