STU Strengthens Understanding of Workplace Fairness Legislation
On Saturday, 24 May 2025, STU delegates and Central Councillors attended a Workplace Fairness Legislation workshop held at OTCi. The session, led by Mr Clarence Chia, offered valuable insights into the key provisions of the new legislation and its practical implications for both workers and employers.
The Workplace Fairness Legislation seeks to provide stronger protection against workplace discrimination and promotes the fair and merit-based treatment of all employees. For educators, this legislation is especially relevant in areas such as recruitment, performance appraisal, promotion, and professional development opportunities. It ensures that decisions in these areas must be based on objective criteria and not influenced by factors such as age, race, gender, religion, marital status, family responsibilities, or disability.
The workshop was a meaningful and engaging learning experience for STU delegates and Central Councillors. It reinforced the union’s ongoing commitment to advocating for fairness, inclusivity, and the well-being of all educators. By deepening their understanding of the legislation, STU leaders are better equipped to support members in upholding and navigating fair employment practices in the education sector.
