Guiding our BTs at the annual Beginning Teachers’ Forum

From classroom management to clearing probation, our Beginning Teachers (BTs) learnt new tips and tricks to navigate their initial years in school. Addressing the BTs, Assistant General Secretary Andy Ang shared key pointers on fostering good professional  relationships with fellow colleagues, superiors and students.

STU Central Council members Goh Huishan and Mohammed Aizad also shared relevant advice on the use of social media and duty of care of a teacher. Many relevant cases and experiences were shared and discussed to keep the BTs informed about potential pitfalls. STU also invited Krishnan Aravinthan, principal of Spectra Secondary School, to lend his advice and expectations of BTs from a perspective as a school leader.

During the engagement, BTs were able to clarify their doubts on clearing probation, career progressions as well as the support that STU can provide. Overall it was a fruitful session and the BTs expressed that they were glad to have the opportunity to learn about issues discussed at the forum.
